"In the creation of my objects, I am interested in the exact and architectonic, how seemingly simple forms are accentuated by glazes and different materials and how to emphasize scale and weight in the works by adding colours and structures in the material."
Working in ceramics, wood, stone, concrete and metal, Gunnar Thorsen creates deceptively simple but precise sculptural objects. Interested in architectonic forms, he emphasises scale and weight by the use of different materials and by employing different glazes and colours.
Thorsen studied ceramics at Bergen College of Art and Crafts. He has exhibited in Europe, US and Asia and his work can be found in a number of institutional collections including the National Museum Oslo, KODE Bergen and Everson Art Museum New York.
Gunnar Thorsen lives and works in Bergan, Norway
