We are pleased to show the work if Irina Razumovskaya at artgenève 2025.
Her works explore themes of time, decay, and transformation, evoking a sense of belonging, presence, and connection to nature. Central to her practice is the tension between control and chaos, a dynamic she likens to the human experience of self-restraint, censorship, and the weight of decision-making.
Born in Russia, a country with a deeply entrenched history of behavioural censorship and control, Irina Razumovskaya reflects on how these systems have shaped her personal values, choices and creative process. Her work is a visceral response to these forces, expressing the profound implications of societal and individual constraints.
Working with rough and sturdy clay, Irina carefully shapes her forms, often inspired by constructivist architectonic principles. Yet, she embraces unpredictability by layering glazes, clays, and minerals in ways that defy total control. During the firing process, the heat of the kiln catalyses complex chemical reactions, transforming the materials into surfaces that peel, melt, and decay. This moment of irreversible change embodies the balance between preparation and surrender, where the final result becomes a collaboration between the artist and the forces of nature.
We look forward to presenting her work at artgenève 2025, which runs from 30 January to 2 February.
