“Studio glass has become polarized: some reject process-oriented work to seek artistic legitimacy in traditional art forms, while others push craftsmanship’s limits without truly breaking barriers. This focus on context is misplaced—art shouldn’t be constrained by the medium’s reputation. Yet, process-driven work, through respect of the material, can restore the physicality and poetry that modern art often dismisses but remains essential to our mental survival.”

Pioneering Danish Studio Glass Artist
Per-René Larsen a Danish studio glass artist and a key figure in the first generation of studio glass art in Denmark. He graduated from the Danish School of Applied Art (now The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts) in 1975 and further honed his craft at Sweden’s prestigious Orrefors Glass School (now the National School of Glass), a leading institution in Scandinavian glass artistry.
As a co-founder of Snoldelev Glassworks, alongside Skak Snitker and others, Per-René established himself as a leading contemporary glass artist. Since the start of his career, he has embraced an experimental and innovative approach to glassmaking, continuously pushing the boundaries of the medium. In 1984, he founded Fanefjord Glass, his personal studio, where he continues to create striking sculptural glass pieces and large-scale land-art installations. His signature works often explore the interplay between light, transparency, and form – frequently inspired by the classic vase shape and the optical properties of glass in natural surroundings.
Larsen’s artwork is featured in prominent museum collections, including:
