In Forms of the Never Was, artists Matthew Harris and Patrick Loughran explore form, movement, and abstract imagery through processes of excavation, repetition, and manipulation.
Matthew Harris creates dynamic textile artworks by translating abstract imagery and drawn marks into cloth. He paints, dyes, cuts, and hand-stitches fabric to produce layered compositions. His work emphasizes pattern, repetition, and the disrupted flow of line and image across the textile surface. By reassembling elements and layering materials, Harris introduces new forms and a playful sense of movement.
Patrick Loughran sculpts contemporary ceramic forms starting with clay, the most malleable material. Rather than subtracting, he builds, manipulates, and models to shape forms rooted in utilitarian, figurative, and architectural traditions. His ceramic sculptures reflect a personal vocabulary of shapes developed through hands-on experimentation and material play.
Both artists use distinct materials and techniques, drawing on a wide range of influences. Together, they create shapes that never were, shapes that ultimately bring the viewer on a journey to the unexpected.
